Why We Built BNKR

We wanted somewhere to go.

Not a gym.

Not exactly a club.

Somewhere in between.

We love what happens on a good dance floor: the music gets loud enough that conversation becomes irrelevant. You stop checking your phone. You stop thinking about what you're doing tomorrow. Eventually, if the night is good enough, you stop thinking about much of anything.

You're just there.

Moving.

The problem is everything that traditionally comes with it.

It's late. There's alcohol. You get home at 4 AM. The next day disappears. Sometimes the next two.

We kept wondering:

Why does something that makes us feel so good have to make us feel so terrible afterward?

And on the other side was fitness.

We understood why people loved it. We just didn't necessarily love the experience surrounding it.

Counting.

Tracking.

Reps.

Mirrors.

Metrics.

Someone shouting instructions while you're trying to remember which foot is supposed to go where.

We wanted the physical intensity without feeling like we were exercising.

We wanted the mental quiet of yoga without necessarily being quiet.

We wanted the collective energy of a nightclub without needing the nightclub.

So we started thinking about what would happen if we stripped all of those things down to the parts we actually wanted.

Music. Movement. People. A room.

That became BNKR.

nothing to master

One decision became particularly important early on:

There would be no choreography.

We didn't want you watching an instructor all night.

We didn't want people worrying about whether they could dance.

We didn't want anyone feeling like the person next to them knew something they didn't.

You get a space.

The DJ gives you a beat.

You move.

That's it.

The instructor is there to guide the room, not control your body.

Because sometimes the best movement is the movement nobody told you to make.

THE ROOM MATTERS

We also knew the environment couldn't be decoration.

Sound matters.

Darkness matters.

Light matters.

Heat matters.

The person playing the music matters.

And the other people in the room matter.

BNKR isn't a workout with a techno aesthetic layered over it.

The room itself is part of the experience.

It begins relatively cool. The music builds. Bodies generate heat. The temperature rises. Light and sound intensify with it.

Then everything reverses.

The music slows.

The temperature drops.

The room gets quieter.

You come back.

WHY BNKR?

Because we think there are a lot of people looking for somewhere between the worlds we've been given.

People who love nightlife but don't always want the night.

People who want to move but don't necessarily want to “work out.”

People who want community without forced interaction.

People who meditate.

People who rave.

People who do both.

And people who do neither.

Maybe you arrive carrying the day.

Maybe work sucked.

Maybe your brain won't shut up.

Maybe nothing is wrong at all and you just want to dance.

Bring it.

For 60 minutes, there's somewhere to put it.

THE FLOOR CAN TAKE IT.
